Always seen swaggering in long flowing robes and headdresses decorated with gilded and knotted ropes, these "nomads of Arabic origin" are, of course, Shriners who have an affinity for the exotic. Their music emanates from musettes, tambourines, and other Middle Eastern musical instruments. They are right out of the "Arabian Knights".
The Nile Oriental Band is always looking for Nobles who want to participate in parades and competitions with a really fun bunch of guys. Our activities are rather extensive as we meet and practice each Monday night with starting at 6:30 pm. One of our most popular events is hosting the Oriental Band Crab Feed each February. We always start the parade season at the La Conner Tulip Festival in early April. Prior to the parade we meet at the Shelter Bay picnic grounds for a potluck with the band providing the burgers and dogs! At the Nile Family picnic in July, the band offers burgers, dogs and pop for sale. This is not much of a money maker, just a fun time for all. In August we sell Corn on the Cob at the Evergreen State Fair in Monroe. This is our big fundraiser and it does take a lot of effort, but we have a really good time! We conclude the year with a Christmas party which the band hosts for its members and their ladies. We do have a great time and are considered one of the largest and best units currently in the Nile Shrine!
