Nobles, as I write this, I am able to reflect on the last 5 years and wow, how humbling. I am honored to have served the Nile during that time. I am also humbled by the faith and trust you, the Nobles of Nile shrine, placed in my hands. Five years ago and being new to the Divan, I attended a board meeting where we discussed that the Nile had just spent the last of our investments and weren’t sure if we would make the next payroll. What a difference five years makes!
Today while we aren’t back to where we were in the hey day of the Shrine, you all have stepped up and assisted us to make a one-hundred-and-eighty-degree turn.
The preliminary numbers are in on the haunted house and it looks like we will again set a record in net income. Thank you to all of those involved in making this a success.
The Royal Order of the Rose contributed over ten thousand dollars to our hospitals all the while honoring the ladies who are special to us.
The best part is our cash balance on hand is healthy enough to see us through our slower months. Your Divan has worked tirelessly to turn things around and with the nobles’ help we are seeing the results. To be a part of that makes me proud.
I am also looking for great things to come in the ensuing years. Having worked with the Divan members these past years, I know that with you behind them we will continue with great things for the Nile. Michael has spent four years now preparing to lead us on, and we can expect great things to continue under his leadership. It feels good to know that I leave the leadership of the Nile in good hands.
Nobles, a big thank you to all of you who have helped me in this journey. Many hands were involved in our success, and I am grateful for all your support. Finally, a big and grateful thank you to First Lady Susan. When I couldn’t be somewhere, she represented me at parades and other events. She supported me every step of the way. The last five years would not have been possible for me without her support, and I owe her more than I will be able to repay.
Nobles, again thank you for all that you have done. Thank you for the memories, the success and the hard work that together has helped to make the Nile and the Shrine so great. Fun and fellowship with a purpose and our children of the Shriners Hospitals for Children makes our fraternity the best place to be in the world.
Yours in the faith,
Steven L. Dazey
