Pote's Notes - November-December - 2019

Nobles,

Now that fall is here things are definitely happening at the Nile. First a big ‘thank you’ to all that attended our meeting in October. The presentation by WB Scott Slater was very well received by all.

Please note the date change for our upcoming Kash for Kids meeting on November 8th. We have moved this meeting to Friday as usual so that all can attend and support our hospitals. We will roll out a video to introduce our hospital patient ambassadors.

Also last month was our annual Nile Nightmares Haunted House. This is the Nile’s major fund raiser for the year. Without the funds raised from the haunt we would not be able to continue to make the upgrades and improvements to our temple that we have been able to for the last several years. Thank you to the small cadre of dedicated Shriners who showed up to assist with parking and security and of course the ladies who worked the ticket booth. This small dedicated group are what has made this fund raiser successful and they are much appreciated.

Speaking of upgrades and improvements, the new carpeting is in, and we have enough extra that we are looking at carpeting some rooms that were not in the original plan. We have repaired asphalt on the entry driveway and now have the gates operating. The Past Potentates picture frames have been repaired and are now back on the wall in the long hallway opposite the Library. We are constantly looking at catching up on the long list of deferred maintenance as funds become available. We welcome the help and ideas from our nobles as we work to make the Nile a welcoming place for all.

Following October’s meeting, a planning session was held to look at how we are going to move forward with our Motor Corp Unit. The idea is to bring all motorized units under the umbrella of a motor corp and then to have the individual units operate as a unit but have the support of the umbrella organization. The hope is this will strengthen the existing units and bring on board two new motor corp groups, Drift Trikes and Tin Lizzies. If you are interested in either of our two new groups or want more information on how to get involved with our existing motorized units, Mini Truckers, Mini Bikes, or vans please give the Nile Office a call at 425-774-9611 ext. 201 or stop in and ask. We will get you to the right group.

Finally make sure to add to your calendar our Fall Ceremonial on November 16th and also or our New Year’s Eve Ball December 31st. For the Fall Ceremonial, we will be having presentations for the new ladies and so want to make sure that our Shrine Ladies are here to show them that Shrinedom is not just for the guys. The New Year’s Eve Ball will be the highlight of 2019 and our chance to kick off 2020 in style, so plan on coming out. We all are looking forward to seeing.

Yours in the faith,

Steven L. Dazey
